Sheboygan Leaf Pickup 2026: Schedule, Rules & When to Hire Leaf Removal

City of Sheboygan leaf pickup for 2026 starts Monday, October 12 and runs through Thanksgiving week. During that window only, city residents can rake loose leaves into the street gutter, and Public Works crews collect them by zone, one zone per weekday. Outside the collection period, city ordinance bans leaves in the gutter, so timing matters.

Below is everything you need to know about Sheboygan leaf collection this fall: how the zones work, what the trucks won't take, where to drop leaves off if you miss your day, how the neighboring towns handle it, and when it makes more sense to have someone else deal with the whole yard.

When Is Leaf Pickup in Sheboygan in 2026?

The City of Sheboygan announced that curbside leaf collection begins Monday, October 12, 2026. Local radio station WHBL reported the end date as "Wednesday, November 26." On the 2026 calendar, though, November 26 is Thanksgiving Day and the Wednesday before it is November 25, so plan on collection wrapping up the day before Thanksgiving and confirm on the city's Seasonal Services page as the date gets close.

If you landed here searching for the 2025 schedule: the program runs the same way every year, roughly mid-October to late November, and the city posts the official start date on its website each fall.

How Do the Sheboygan Leaf Collection Zones Work?

The city is split into five collection zones, one for each weekday. On your zone's day, crews work that zone and return the following day if heavy leaf fall keeps them from finishing. The city's Leaf Collection Schedule Map (linked from the Seasonal Services page) shows which day is yours.

What Won't the City Pick Up?

The leaf equipment is a vacuum, so anything that isn't a leaf causes trouble. The city asks residents to keep branches, sod, pumpkins and general yard waste out of the pile, and not to put leaves in plastic bags. A few more rules that get piles skipped or streets flooded:

  • Keep piles clear of parked cars. Don't park on or drive over leaf piles.
  • Leave the curb line and catch basins open. Leaves packed against storm inlets are how Sheboygan streets flood during a fall rain.
  • Watch the forecast. Frozen or snow-covered leaves can't be collected, so a late-November cold snap can strand a pile until spring.

Where Can I Take Leaves If I Miss My Pickup Day?

City residents can bag leaves and take them to the Residential Recycling Center at 2026 New Jersey Avenue. That's also the city's suggested option for anyone who wants to keep leaves out of the street altogether. Check posted hours before you load the car.

The other option the city recommends is the easiest one: mulch-mow light leaf cover right into the lawn. Shredded leaves break down over winter and feed the soil. It only works when the layer is thin, though. If you can't see grass through the leaves, they need to come off.

How Do Kohler, Plymouth and the Towns Handle Leaves?

Leaf collection is run municipality by municipality in Sheboygan County, and the rules are not the same everywhere:

  • Village of Kohler collects leaves from October to around Thanksgiving, but wants them raked into a neat row along the curb, not into the street. Piles with anything other than leaves get skipped, and the village has no yard waste drop-off site.
  • City of Plymouth collects leaves raked onto the boulevard each fall; watch for the city's notice for your area's timing.
  • Towns and rural addresses (Town of Wilson, Town of Sheboygan and others) often have no curbside leaf program at all, which means bagging and hauling or handling them on your own property. Check with your town clerk.

Is It Worth Hiring Leaf Removal Instead?

The city program is free and it works, if you can rake on the city's schedule. Where it falls short:

  • Leaves don't drop on your zone's day. Maples, oaks and everything else in a Sheboygan yard fall over five or six weeks. Leaves that sit matted on turf for weeks waiting for the truck smother the grass and set up snow mold.
  • The city only takes leaves. Perennial cutback, bed cleanout and branches still need somewhere to go.
  • Raking an average city lot is a full weekend, sometimes two, and it all has to happen before your pickup day.
  • Outside the city limits there may be no truck coming at all.

A professional fall cleanup in Sheboygan handles all of it at once: leaves off the lawn and out of the beds, a final short mow, perennial cutback, and everything hauled away, so nothing waits at the curb. Our fall cleanup guide covers what's included and why the timing matters in Wisconsin. Getting the leaves off early also keeps the October window open for core aeration and topdressing in Sheboygan County, both of which need a clear lawn surface.

How Much Does Fall Cleanup and Leaf Removal Cost?

Our fall cleanup is priced by lot size, so you can see the number before you book:

Lot size Sunny Stripes fall cleanup
Small to medium (up to ~7,000 sq ft) $245
Large (~7,000–12,000 sq ft) $420
Extra large (12,000 sq ft – ½ acre) $675
½ – 1 acre $1,150
1 – 3 acres $2,390

Heavy tree cover, fenced backyards and oaks that keep dropping into December are what push a job up. A yard under two mature silver maples can produce more leaves than a much bigger open lot.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does Sheboygan leaf pickup start in 2026?

Monday, October 12, 2026. City residents may rake loose leaves into the street gutter during the collection period, and crews collect them by zone, one zone per weekday, through Thanksgiving week.

How do I find my Sheboygan leaf collection day?

Use the Leaf Collection Schedule Map on the City of Sheboygan's Seasonal Services page. The city is divided into five zones, one for each weekday, and crews return the next day if heavy leaf fall keeps them from finishing a zone.

Can I put leaves in bags at the curb in Sheboygan?

No plastic bags at the curb. Rake leaves loose into the gutter during the collection period, or bag them and take them to the Residential Recycling Center at 2026 New Jersey Avenue.

What happens if it snows before my leaves are picked up?

Collection can be delayed or suspended during snow, ice or freezing rain because the equipment can't pick up frozen leaves. A pile that freezes in place may sit until it thaws, so it pays to rake early rather than waiting for the last week.

Can I just leave the leaves on my lawn?

A thin layer can be mulch-mowed into the lawn and actually feeds the soil. A thick, matted layer smothers the grass and invites snow mold over winter. If you can't see grass through the leaves, they need to come off.

Do you haul the leaves away?

Yes. Our fall cleanups include hauling and disposal, so nothing is left at the curb waiting on the city schedule. That makes it a good fit for properties outside the city limits, too.
