Hydroseeding in Sheboygan County. A new lawn at a fraction of sod's price.
Seed, starter fertilizer and fiber mulch sprayed on as one slurry that holds moisture and stays put on slopes. It sprouts faster and more evenly than dry seed and costs a fraction of sod across a whole yard. We grade and topsoil first, because that is what decides whether the lawn lasts. Serving Sheboygan, Kohler, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth, Howards Grove, Oostburg, Cedar Grove and Random Lake.
Tell us about the ground. We'll price it in writing.
Hydroseeding is quoted per property because the prep sets the price: a graded new-build lot needs topsoil brought in, an old lawn needs killing off first, and a slope needs tackifier. We look at the site, then quote hydroseed next to sod and dry seed so you can choose on budget and timing.

Most of the yard still grass? You probably don't need hydroseeding. Aeration and overseeding thickens a thin lawn for far less, and we'll tell you straight if that's the better call.

Bare dirt to first mow, in five steps.
The spray is the fast part. Most of the work happens before it, and most of the success happens in the four weeks after.
Get a hydroseeding quoteClear and kill off
Weeds and dead turf come out or are killed off first, so the new seed isn't competing with what failed before.
Grade and topsoil
Water graded away from the foundation and screened topsoil spread over compacted clay or builder fill. This is the step that gets skipped, and it's why so many new lawns come in thin.
Spray the slurry
Seed blended for your sun and shade, starter fertilizer and wood or paper fiber mulch go down as one green coat. On slopes we add tackifier so it stays put through the first hard rain.
Keep it damp
The mulch holds moisture, but the top inch still needs short, frequent watering until the grass is up. You get a day-by-day schedule, and we can set up temporary sprinklers on timers.
First mow and handoff
First cut at about three inches with a sharp blade, a gentle first season, and an easy handoff to our mowing and fertilization programs.
Where hydroseed wins, and where it doesn't.
Hydroseeding is the middle path between dry seed and sod. Here's how we decide.
Get a hydroseeding quoteBig bare areas
New-construction lots and full backyard restarts, where sod's price adds up fast and dry seed sprouts unevenly.
Slopes, swales and ditches
Dry seed washes into the storm drain in the first thunderstorm. Fiber mulch with tackifier holds it in place.
Faster, more even germination
The mulch keeps seed moist and in contact with the soil, so it often sprouts in about a week in good conditions.
Not for small patches
A few bare spots in an otherwise decent lawn are cheaper to fix with aeration and overseeding.
Not when you need it finished this week
Selling the house or hosting a party in days? Sod is the only option that looks done the day we leave.
Timing still matters
Hydroseed follows the seed calendar: mid-August to mid-September is best here, with spring second.

How much does hydroseeding cost?
National 2026 data puts professional hydroseeding at roughly $0.07 to $0.26 per square foot before prep, which is a fraction of installed sod at $1 to $2. On most Sheboygan County lawns the grading and topsoil are the bigger number, so we quote each property in writing after a site visit. Our hydroseeding cost guide has the full breakdown.
Is hydroseeding better than sod or seed?
It's the middle option. It costs far less than sod and comes in faster and more evenly than dry seed, especially on slopes and big bare areas. Sod still wins when you need a finished lawn immediately. See sod vs. seed in Wisconsin for the full comparison.
When is the best time to hydroseed in Wisconsin?
Mid-August to mid-September, when the soil is warm, nights are cool and weeds are fading. Spring, roughly April to mid-May, is second choice. Midsummer seeding usually struggles without heavy watering.
How long does hydroseed take to grow?
In good conditions the first sprouts often show in about a week, faster than dry seed. Bluegrass-heavy blends take longer than ryegrass. Expect the first mow a few weeks in, once the grass reaches about three inches.
How often do I water new hydroseed?
Keep the top inch damp until the grass is up, which in warm weather often means two or three short waterings a day. Once seedlings reach about two inches, water less often and more deeply. You get a written schedule, and we can set up temporary sprinklers on timers.
Does hydroseeding work on clay soil?
Yes, if the ground is prepared first. Compacted clay and thin builder fill get loosened, graded and topped with screened topsoil before we spray. Spraying onto hard bare clay is the most common reason a hydroseeded lawn comes in thin.
Do I need hydroseeding, or would overseeding fix it?
If most of the yard is still grass, overseed. Aeration and overseeding thickens a thin lawn for far less. Hydroseed when more than about half the area is bare or weeds, after construction, or on a slope that won't hold seed.
